About Kurt Huffman

Over the last nearly 50 years, Representative Kurt Huffman has called Colorado home. He has lived in Boulder, Denver, and Jefferson Counties, but Highlands Ranch has been his home for the last 26 years.

Qualifications

In addition to serving as the incumbent State Representative for HD43, he is the only candidate in this race with experience in multiple sessions at the State Capitol. His faith in God, life-long marriage, traditional values, and work ethic are all assets he leverages to fight for the voices and values of Highlands Ranch and Douglas County at the State Capitol.

Marriage

Kurt and his wife Julie have been happily married for nearly 35 years. They were both raised on traditional values that emphasized the importance of hard work and a solid educational foundation. Teamwork and problem-solving skills are the foundation of their marriage.

Election to HD43

On June 4, 2022, Kurt was appointed to be the State Representative for House District 43, replacing Representative Kevin Van Winkle. Over the summer he has had the opportunity to lay the groundwork to be the most effective possible advocate for Highlands Ranch as a State Representative for District 43. As your current State Representative, he battles every day to protect the rights of Colorado's constituents and works hard to drive new opportunities for students, small businesses, and families.

Childhood Struggles

At the age of 10, Kurt was failing out of the Boulder County Public School system. His family later learned that he had dyslexia and was unlikely to graduate high school without extreme intervention. The public school system was not designed to meet specific educational needs leaving struggling students and families left without many options. Kurt was very fortunate to have been offered an opportunity to attend Denver Academy where he flourished, learning to read, graduating, and moving on to college. This is why protecting school choice and guaranteeing parental rights are both essential for Kurt.

Battle with Leukemia

Thirty years ago, Kurt was diagnosed with incurable leukemia and given mere months to live, but he never gave up hope. The statistics were clear, Kurt had a 1:100,000 chance of finding a suitable bone marrow donor, but determination and faith paid off. A year later, he restarted his life with a new level of appreciation and an unmatched zest for life and the future.
